The North Louisiana STEM Alliance is a community of practice recognized by the STEM Funder’s Network STEM Learning Ecosystems (www.stemecosystems.org). Sci-Port Discovery Center is the host organization with Dr. Heather Kleiner as the leader. STEM refers to Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics.
Since 2016, the NLSA collaborated on more than 70 programs, serving at least 22,000 individuals for a total of 39,000 contact hours. These activities include Professional Development workshops, student workshops, field trips, IMAX movies, summer camps, coding, robotics, festivals, faires, and environmental education/clean ups. We are now beginning our fourth year to serve more students and teachers in North Louisiana.
Our Mission: As a community of educators, parents and civic advocates, unified to connect students to the 21st century workforce, we focus on improving STEM education for our students through achieving math proficiency as well as increasing awareness of and access to STEM opportunities in the community. .
Our Goal: is to coordinate efforts of diverse stakeholders in North Louisiana to provide high quality Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) education, including the arts, to all youth PK-16 regardless of zip code.
